Tuesday night race at Road America. We made it up late because dad can’t get off of work early enough. But that’s okay, we only missed one practice.
It was very sunny and humid when we arrived. We kept questioning why we even decided to race, especially because the whole way up we were wondering if they were going to cancel because of the weather.
We made it out for second practice. It was a layout that I am not very familiar with. My lap times weren’t very good and we had qualifying next.
During qualifying, I couldn’t get any grip on the track. We only had 2 laps to qualify, so I needed to get as much grip as I could. Since I couldn’t, I didn’t have my best lap times, causing me to not qualify well.
The second heat started off well, but right before lap 2, my rear bumper got hit and I spun. I just rode it out and tried to focus on my lap times.
The feature started pretty much the exact same, with getting hit, again. But this time, instead of just riding it out, I tried to catch back up. I was half a lap behind them, but I wanted to see how close I could get. I was about a kart length away from them in the last lap.
All of a sudden, one of the drivers was off track. I was still right behind two drivers. In the second to last corner, they wrecked, and I took the two positions, resulting in P7 after starting in P9.
The day did not go as we had hoped, but it ended exactly where we were shooting for.
