Raceday Update: 7/7 Road America Weeknight Series

Tonight was probably the least chaos we’ve had all season.

We had the weeknight series tonight. Like every weeknight race, we missed the first practice.

That made the second practice essential for my position to qualify. I used my practice as if it was a qualifying for qualifying. I tried to get a good lap time so I would have clear track to qualify.

I started qualifying in P7 (first group 2) and my lap times put me in the same position.

The first heat was pretty calm, with not much aggression, and a good start for me. In the first lap of the second heat, I got a bump on my rear bumper from someone behind me, which spun me about a quarter of a turn, but luckily I was able to save myself and get flipped back around. The rest of the race went pretty well.

After the second heat, in tech, we were getting our carb slides checked, and it turns out, we didn’t have the throttle cap tightened completely, resulting in a DQ. Luckily, I wasn’t the only person, so I started in P10 and not P12 for the feature.

In the feature, there was a wreck right in front of me, which I was able to avoid (thanks for the DQ). Because of the wreck and my starting position, I was behind someone that I felt that I needed to get in front of. I kept trying to pass to the inside, quickly getting cut off, and needing to lift. I eventually got tired of it, and I stayed in it. I made sure that I would be able to pass. I almost ended up off track, but I pushed harder. I pushed just hard enough to make the pass. The rest of the race went pretty quiet and I finished off the day in P8.

Today we were going to focus on pushing myself, and I ended up not only doing that, but also working on passes. I'm looking forward to racing at Road America in the Weekend Series on Saturday!
